Be safe on the road with a safety vest
Motorcycle fatalities and injuries are increasing in America. According to the data collected by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcyclists made up 14 percent of all vehicle-related fatalities in 2013, 9 percent higher than the fatalities in 2004. In 2012, California’s motorcycle collision resulted in 467 fatalities and 12,617, and in 2013 the data is even higher. Since the accidents increase year by year, the law enforcement and the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) have promoted safety vest and education to the public to enhance their safety awareness.
The Oxnard Police Department offers some tips to the motorcyclists to prevent themselves in car accidents. The motorcyclists should wear the proper safety gear at all times, including a DOT-compliant helmet. Obey all traffic laws and be properly licensed. Excessive speed is the most common rider-related factor in motorcycle related crashes. Follow at a safe distance. Ride within your own limits - don't be a victim of peer pressure. Use turn signals at every lane change or turn. Wear high visibility clothing, reflective tape and reflective accessories to increase visibility. Never ride distracted or impaired. Ride defensively - assume other drivers don't see you.
For the driving security, the Traffic Unit will also check DUI/Driver’s License in multiple locations. The officers will also look for the drivers with the signs of alcohol or drug impairment.
